What is fat lice?
Lard lice, or better known as laundry lice, is a greasy substance left behind in the washing machine. Grease lice occur because all kinds of things accumulate: dander, dirt residue on clothes or undissolved substances such as laundry detergent.
You may experience odor problems if the gunk gets stuck in the washer. So be sure to look behind the machine’s rubber, inside the pump and possibly in the drain pipes. If the build-up of grease lice gets out of hand, it can eventually end up on your clothes as well, leaving dirty stains. Are you not addressing the grease lice? Then you also run the risk of damage to your washing machine.
How can you prevent grease lice?
The most efficient way to prevent grease lice is to regularly wash the washing machine at high temperature. Once a month a boil wash program at 90°C should suffice.
By the way, did you know that grease lice are not resistant to bleach? If you want to do a white wash, you can use powder detergent that contains bleach. For colored laundry, you can use a liquid detergent if you wash at a low temperature, as it dissolves better and thus will not leave a residue.
How can you remove grease lice from clothing?
Do your clothes come out of the washing machine with stains after a wash? Then lice is playing tricks on you. How can you remove fatty lice from clothing? You can wash the clothing again at a warm temperature (from 40°C). Are the stains still not out? Then try a stain remover.
To get the grease lice out of the machine, you can run a hot program without laundry or detergent, and as a miracle cure, you can add a cup of baking soda or a splash of cleaning vinegar.
