How to remove brown deposits under the toilet rim?

No matter how often you brush, do you still suffer from brown residue under the toilet rim? This is definitely not due to your hygiene. This brown deposit often develops over time and is sometimes difficult to remove. Find out how to remove it in our blog.

Remove brown residue under toilet rim

Brown stains under the toilet rim are often caused by a combination of scale and urinary stone. There can also be a build-up of deposits deeper inside the toilet, where toilet water remains. Lime scale is the most common type of scale on plumbing fixtures. Urinary stone, on the other hand, occurs specifically in toilets and is caused by the waste products in urine.

The following tips can help remove brown deposits:

  • Get started with cleaning vinegar. Pour it on the spot where the tarnish occurs and leave for a few hours. Afterwards, rinse again with water. Please note! Our L&S-housekeepers do not work with vinegar.
  • Apply baking soda to the tarnish and leave for a few hours. You can also use baking soda in combination with vinegar.
  • Try a mild urine scale remover or limescale remover to tackle brown deposits.
  • Use probiotic cleaners such as Sani Clean and Oder prevention from Clean Green. These cleaners are harmless to humans, animals and the environment and contain good bacteria that remove stubborn dirt.

Be careful with bleach to avoid damage to your pipes.

Can you prevent urinary stone?

Preventing brown deposits is sometimes more difficult than expected, as the problem can be very persistent. Of course, it is important to always flush your toilet sufficiently so that urine residue does not remain in the toilet. Cleaning your toilet at least once a week can also help prevent brown deposits under the toilet rim.
